Fun Escape, Right or Wrong

In the dream I was designing a building with evacuation spots located at different part of the facade where firemen can approach. The shapes of these exits were of various shapes and I was debating with myself if these shapes do not necessarily make any functional sense and if it was wrong to design them with a fun geometric language. However, does anything associated with life safety have to be designed with a boring and serious connotation.
